Lafayette Towers has fallen into foreclosure and will be auctioned off by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on July 18th.

Per the auction notice, significant repair work is required within 18 months of closing.

The Northern Group, who purchased the tower in 2005, also failed to develop their proposed Cadillac Center in downtown Detroit adjacent to Campus Martius.

Lafayette Towers is one part of Lafayette Park on Detroit’s east side that was designed by noted International Style architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
