history:
At one time, this Louis Kamper masterpiece was the tallest building in Detroit and the tallest hotel in the world.  The hotel changed hands many times since the Great Depression and finally ended up closed and abandoned.   Local developers stepped up in 2005 to restore this once great Detroit symbol.  The completed project will feature a 455 room Westin Hotel and 67 luxury condominiums on the top eight floors.  Work started in 2006 to with a planned completion in late 2008.

Already spurring local development, The Griswold, a parking deck with another 80 condominiums. is under construction immediately adjacent to the Book-Cadillac.
