The majestic building’s archways were designed in to emphasize the letter ‘M’ motif for ‘Majestic’. Reportedly, the letter appeared on all the door knobs of the building when it was first constructed.

Please see the post I wrote under the Chase Tower (National Bank of Detroit building) related to the shape of the building parcels used by NBD and First Federal. The City chose to compromise the original master plan rectangular shape of Campus Martius that had dictated the original shapes of the Majestic and Hammond buildings.

A beautiful peice of history for Detroit. Our Dad’s (Earl Lowe) Company was the one that Demoished this building. Our family have pictures of him on the roof looking over the city!
